It was really only a matter of time until we made this succulent display wall. You see, we just adore succulents. We also have a gallery grid display wall that we like to update frequently. You could say the combination of the 2 was inevitable. Like the look? Read on to find out how to make your own succulent display.
How to make a succulent display
The first step in making a succulent display is to gather your materials and succulents. Believe it or not we used take out soy sauce containers for our succulent holders. These are handy to save for keeping small amounts of liquids. We’re thrilled to have found another creative use for them. These little plastic containers were the main material for our succulent display. For this upcycle you’ll also need soil, succulents, fishing wire, a hot glue gun and a small pairing knife. We clipped our succulents from the garden. Succulents are very robust and grow well from clippings.
Once you’ve assembled the supplies, fill your plastic containers with soil. For our succulent display we left some containers open and others we closed with lids. The ones with lids became the vertical, hanging succulents. Cut holes into your lids to make these. We tried a few ways but found the most effective way to be cutting an X into the lid a little bit off from the centre. Use your small pairing knife for this.
Once you’ve prepped some lids you can begin planting. Be sure to plant all of our containers before hanging them. For the vertical containers close the lids and insert your succulent stalk from the outside in. In order to hang the vertical containers, wrap fishing wire around the sealed plastic containers and hot glue into place. Hang these succulents up by looping and knotting the fishing wire over the gallery grid. Attach the open planters to the gallery grid with sticky tack.
That’s it, you now have a succulent display!
