Do you have any ugly old lampshades lying around? If so, this wire pendant light tutorial is perfect for you. It’s an awesome way to turn unwanted lampshades into trendy wire pendant lights! The best part is that it’s super easy. Read on to find out how to make these cool upcycled pendant lights.
To make a wire pendant light you will need:
- Lampshades to upcycle
- 1 Pull String Light Socket (you can get this for around $3.50 at your local hardware store)
- 1 threaded nipple, 1/2”
- 1 Washer
- 1 Hex Nut
- Your desired length of wire rope
- Spray paint
- Hot glue gun and glue
Step 1 – Cut the fabric off of your lampshade until you are left with the wire skeleton only.
Step 2 – Spray paint your lamp skeleton and also your lamp socket if you want to.
Step 3 – Thread the hex nut and washer through your cord. Then feed the lamp cord through the top of the lampshade.
Step 4 – Thread your cord through the top and base of your lamp socket.
Step 5 – This step is an important one. In order to get the weight of the shade off of the wiring and onto the entire socket use some hot glue to affix the wiring to the socket. Tie a knot in your wire and fill the knot and socket area with hot glue.
Step 6 – Connect the wire to the socket and then connect the 2 parts of the socket.
Step 7 – Connect the socket to the top of the shade and attach the hex nut. You will now have an awesome wire pendant lamp!
The great thing about these wire pendant lights is that you can get creative with the cords. If you like you can knot the cords and let the sockets dangle. These upcycled pendant lights look great grouped together!
