These pallet letters are so lovely! They would be perfect for DIY wedding decor or day-to-day wall art. The best part of this project is that it’s super thrifty. Free pallets are super easy to come by. If you have some scraps of plywood and leftover paint/stain you could even make this upcycled wall art without dropping a dime! Are you in? Read on to find out how to make ’em!
These pallet letters are not overly complicated, however you will need some tools.
To make this upcycle you will need:
- A pallet
- 1/4 inch scrap plywood
- A table saw
- A jig saw
- Nail gun
- Wood glue
- Sandpaper
- Stain
- Blue/grey paint
Once you’ve gathered all of your materials the first thing to do is sketch out your letter shapes on 1/4 inch plywood. Then cut them out using a table saw and a jig saw.
Dissemble your pallet and cut the pallet boards into manageable lengths to work with.
Place the pallet pieces on top of your plywood base in order to determine what widths you need to cut your pallet pieces into. Then use your table saw to cut out the correct sizes.
Line up your cut pallet pieces on top of your plywood template and secure them using a nail gun and some wood glue.
Allow your letters to dry and then sand them down. After sanding you can stain your pallet letters. A walnut stain was used here.
Add some blue/grey paint to give your letters a bit of colour and that charming rustic look.
Then sand off some of the paint to complete the weathered look and expose the gorgeous wooden texture.
To give some dimension to your pallet wood letters you can outline each letter. To do this you will need to measure the outline of the letters and cut down pallet strips to size. Attach them using your nail gun and wood glue.
Once your pallet letters have dried you can hang them up!
Stand back and admire your handiwork!
