The Industri[us] Festival of Upcycling will be kicking off this weekend in Canning Town at London’s Royal Docks. It’s no coincidence that the festival launches at the same time as the Olympics, Industri[us] is a Meanwhile London competition winner.

What is Meanwhile London?

Meanwhile London is a competition launched by the mayors of London and Newham to find ideas to regenerate the derelict development sites in London’s Royal Docks and Canning Town. These areas enjoy close proximity to the main Olympic site of Stratford and the second largest Games venue of ExCeL Centre.

Meanwhile London put out a call for ideas that would transform the docks during the Games and beyond.

Industri[us] was one of four winning proposals and plans to put the site to creative short-term use in order to inspire longer term transformation of the area.

The Festival of Upcycling

The festival offers local upcycling businesses and start-ups amazing exposure. With the festival located on the Olympic Spectator Walking Route and 800m from ExCeL, it is anticipated that 80,000 people will be passing the site each day!

We think this is a fantastic opportunity for London’s upcyclers and believe it will be a showcase to the world of the amazing potential in reusing everyday objects.

We’ll definitely be staying tuned to see how the festival unfolds!
